description

Sansevieria cylindrica grows stemless as a perennial, succulent plant with 2.5 to 3.8 centimeters thick rhizomes , some of which have some basal scales. The 3 to 6 two-line stalk-round leaves are upright, cylindrical or slightly compressed to the side. They can also appear splayed, bent back, or very spread out. The simple leaf blade is 60 to 150 centimeters long and 2 to 3 centimeters thick at the base. It is green or whitish green with dark green transverse bands. The hard and narrowed spider tip is 4.2 to 6.4 millimeters long and whitish. The leaf surface is slightly rough.

The simple, spiked inflorescences are 60 to 90 centimeters high. The 38 to 75 centimeter panicles are covered with five to six flowers per clump. The bract is lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate and 4 to 8.5 millimeters long. The bracts are snow white or often light pink. They have a flower tube 1.7 to 2.5 centimeters long.

distribution

Sansevieria cylindrica is widespread in Angola , Zambia and Zimbabwe in the dry lowlands around Luanda and from there south to Benguella , north to the estuary of the Congo, mostly under three to four meters high dry woody trees. Hugo Baum reports large populations under trees and bushes and near termite mounds along the Chitanda River, between Kakele and Goudkopje and in the region between the Kunene and Kubango rivers in Amboland.
