Santa Fe is a village in the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Santa Fe is located in the administrative district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Caracollo in the province of Cercado . The village is located on a plateau in the Serranía de Sicasica ridge at an altitude of 4020  m . A few kilometers east of the village, the mountain range rises to more than 4600 m.

geography

Santa Fe is located on the eastern edge of the Bolivian Altiplano in front of the high mountain range of the Cordillera Central . The vegetation of the region is sparse, because at this altitude no more lush growth is possible. The region has a typical time-of-day climate in which the daily temperature fluctuations are more pronounced than the temperature fluctuations between winter and summer.

The long-term average annual temperature is 8 ° C, the monthly values fluctuate between 4 ° C in June / July and 11 ° C in December (see Caracollo climate diagram). Nocturnal frost temperatures are possible in almost every season. The annual precipitation is low 400 mm, with a pronounced dry season from April to October and only from December to March there is significant precipitation of up to 100 mm in the monthly average. Due to the low rainfall, the sky is mostly clear and an intense blue color.

Transport network

Santa Fe is 57 kilometers by road north of Oruro , the capital of the department of the same name.

From Oruro the paved road Ruta 1 leads northwest and after 41 kilometers reaches the town of Caracollo . Shortly before Caracollo, the unpaved Ruta 44 branches off to the northeast in the direction of Colquiri and overcomes the Serranía de Sicasica for 42 kilometers, reaching Santa Fe after 16 kilometers .

population

At the 2001 census, the population of the village was 253, but it has decreased dramatically in the following decades:
