Sarıköy (also Sare , Ester or Gawayto ) is a village in the İdil district ( Şırnak province ) in Turkey .

Sarıköy is located in southeastern Anatolia at 900 m above sea level, approx. 27 km west of İdil. Other neighboring villages are distributed as follows:

Infrastructure

The village is on a hill. In the village is the Mor Malke church, which has since been restored. Sarıköy has had a sewer system since 2008 and is connected to the public electricity network.

population

Sarıköy is an originally Christian village. The village is called Sare by the residents. In the 1990s, numerous residents left the village because they no longer felt safe. Most emigrated to Germany. In 1994 the mayor and his family were the last to leave the village. The village was then occupied by village guards . In 2004 the village was evicted. The village guards and their families had to leave the village and the village was ceremoniously given back to its original inhabitants. The number of residents varies depending on the season. According to the last statistical survey by TÜIK , the village had 40 inhabitants in 2013 .
