Sara Ramírez
Sara Elena Ramírez (born August 31, 1975 in Mazatlán , Sinaloa , Mexico ) is an American actress and singer of Mexican origin, best known for her role as Calliope Iphegenia 'Callie' Torres in the hospital series Grey's Anatomy .
life and career
After her parents divorced, Sara Ramírez moved with her mother to the United States in San Diego in 1984 . She graduated from the Juilliard School in New York City and then began performing in musicals. Her performance in the musical Monty Python's Spamalot earned her a Tony Award in 2005 .
She made her cinema debut in 1998 in the romantic comedy em @ il für dich in a small supporting role as a cashier. Between 2000 and 2002 she appeared twice in the crime series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and was part of the female vocal ensemble in the film musical Chicago , before she finally joined the cast on the television series Grey's Anatomy in 2006 . In 2016, she left the series at the end of the twelfth season, but a return has not been ruled out, neither by her nor by producer Shonda Rhimes .
In March 2011, Ramírez released an EP entitled Sara Ramírez for download, which reached number 37 on the Billboard charts.
Private
Ramírez married long-time partner Ryan Debolt on July 4, 2012 in New York. In October 2016, she came out as bisexual, but has long been involved in the LGBTQ community.
