Sarah Neufeld (born August 27, 1979 in East Vancouver ) is a Canadian violinist and composer who has emerged primarily in the field of post-rock and is strongly influenced by minimal music .

Act

Neufeld moved from East Vancouver to Montreal at the age of 18 . In 2002 she became a member of the band Arcade Fire , with which she still goes on tour. She also founded the Bell Orchester (with Richard Reed Parry and Pietro Amato ) . In 2009 she also joined The Luyas .

Since 2011 Neufeld has mainly pursued a solo career. In 2011 she began composing violin solos, using Béla Bartók , Steve Reich , Iva Bittová and Arthur Russell as role models. After her debut album, Hero Brother , which was produced in Berlin by Nils Frahm and released in 2013, she presented a duo album with saxophonist Colin Stetson , which she also presented at the Moers Festival in 2015 . With Stetson she also wrote the music for the film Blue Caprice . In 2016 she released a second solo album, The Ridge , on which she also used the violin to accompany her singing.
