Funeral (English for "burial") is the debut album by the Canadian rock band Arcade Fire . It was released on September 14, 2004 in North America and on March 14, 2005 in Germany.

background

The title of the album ("Burial") was given within a short time after the recordings due to the death of several family members of the band members. The music was not influenced by this, however, family is the central theme that runs through the entire album.

The album was recorded in the studio Hotel 2 Tango and the apartment of the band members Win Butler and Régine Chassagne in Montreal in one week in August 2003 and in the winter of 2004.

Mark Lawson and Thierry Amar helped out as sound engineers for the recordings, and Ryan Morey took care of the mastering . The album cover was designed by Tracy Maurice, photos and design are by Hilary Treadwell.
