Sarah Spitzer

Sarah Spitzer (born September 1, 1984 in Hamburg ) is a German violinist .

Sarah Spitzer got her first violin, a flea market purchase, when she was 8 years old. At the age of eleven she became a student at the Budapest Academy of Music . She is the youngest violin student in the history of the university. There she studied with Dénes Kovács . She received further studies with Igor Oistrach at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels , with Christoph Poppen at the “Hanns Eisler” University of Music in Berlin , and with Yair Kless and Boris Kuschnir at the Graz University of Art .

Sarah Spitzer made her debut with the Hamburg Philharmonic under the direction of Philippe Auguin . She has given concerts at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival , the Salzburg Castle Concerts , the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival and the Verbier Festival .

In 2006 she was a violinist at readings by Armin Mueller-Stahl and in Bochum at the Ruhrtriennale in his reading together with Vanessa Redgrave . In 2008 she played from one of his violin sonatas in the documentary about Dmitri Schostakowitsch Dem kühlen Morgen gegen kühlen Morgen . In January 2013 she designed the musical supporting program for the International Willy Brandt Prize in Berlin.

Until 2011 Sarah Spitzer played a Vincenzo Panormo violin from 1782, on loan from London.

Sarah Spitzer lives in Wiesbaden .

Awards

Sarah Spitzer won first prize at the Ede Zathureczky violin competition in Hungary, second prize at the Jakob Stainer violin competition in Germany and the jury award at the Yehudi Menuhin competition in Cardiff, England.
