The Sardinia Vera is a ferry of the Italian shipping company Sardinia Ferries , which was commissioned in 1975 as Stena Atlantica for the Stena Line . The ship has been in service since 2010 on the route from Toulon and Nice to L'Île-Rousse and Calvi .

history

The ship was laid down as the Stena Atlantica on April 5, 1974 in the Rickmers shipyard in Bremerhaven and launched on December 18, 1974 under the hull number 381 as the Stena Nautica . After the takeover by Stena Line on May 30, 1975, the ship went directly as a charter under the name Marine Atlantica to the shipping company Marine Atlantic , which put it into service on the route from North Sydney to Port aux Basques from June 1975 .

In 1986, the Marine Atlantica returned to Italy after eleven years in service with Marine Atlantic and was relocated to La Spezia , after having previously been owned by a shipowner based in the Bahamas . In 1987 it was first renamed Corsica Vera before it was given its current name Sardinia Vera in June of the same year . Then the ship took the service from Livorno to Golfo Aranci .

In 1996 the Sardinia Vera moved from Livorno to Civitavecchia , but continued to call at Golfo Aranci. In the following years the ship was chartered out several times: 2001 to Conseil General de Seine Maritime, 2006 to Transmanche Ferries and 2008 to Kallisti Ferries . After a lay-in period from July 2009, the Sardinia Vera has been in service since June 2010 on the route from Toulon and Nice to L'Île-Rousse and Calvi.
