Sascha Görres (born February 27, 1980 in Flensburg ) is a former German soccer player and coach .

Career

Beginning, amateur status and studies

Görres started playing football at the age of five at the Flensburg club ETSV Weiche Flensburg and went through all of the club's youth teams. In 1999 he moved up to the district league team and managed the unbeaten promotion to the district league with the team in his first season . There he was 20-year-old team captain of the ETSV and took first place in the regional league in the 2001/02 season. In the subsequent promotion round, the team missed promotion to the association league.

Görres, who at that time finished his school career with the Abitur, began studying business informatics at the Flensburg University of Applied Sciences and after 17 years of membership in the club decided to switch to the upper division TSB Flensburg .

His league season 2002/03 was not very successful, the team rose from bottom of the table in the association league , Görres played 31 of 32 point games from the start and acted mainly in the left midfield.

In autumn 2003 he studied, initially as an exchange student for one semester, at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke , where he had met the assistant coach of the soccer team at TSB Flensburg. In spring 2004 he completed his last courses at the FH Flensburg , he wrote his diploma thesis in the season breaks of 2005 and 2006 in Germany. In the fall semester of 2004, Görres returned to the United States to join the UNCP and graduated in spring 2005 with a bachelor's degree in business management .

With the college team, the UNCP Braves , he reached the Final Four tournament of the NCAA Mens Division II Soccer Championship for the first time in the history of soccer in 2004 . Görres was chosen for his season performance in the First-Team All-American of the NCAA Division II . In his two college seasons, he played 38 games, scored 15 goals and prepared another 28 hits.

Professional status in the United States

In 2005 he was selected at the USL-1 College Draft by the Richmond Kickers and, after he was able to convince in the test training, equipped with a three-year contract. In his first professional season, in which he was also used in central midfield , Görres reached the playoff final of the USL First Division with the Kickers , but was defeated there by Seattle Sounders FC 3: 4 on penalties . For the 2006 season, the Richmond Kickers withdrew for financial reasons in the USL Second Division , which was completed in 2006 with the 2-1 final victory against the Charlotte Eagles as champions. Görres was appointed to the team of the season ("All League First Team"), an award that he received again in 2008. After the 2007 season was finished in second place, he won the USL-2 championship again with the team in 2009, this time 3-1, against the Eagles. From the 2008 season Görres acted mainly as a left defender and was nominated in 2008 for the choice of "Defender of the Year". From the beginning of 2011 to the end of the 2016 season, he played with his team in the Eastern Conference of the United Soccer League . He played his last league game on July 24 in a 3-0 home win against the second team of Toronto FC with a substitution for two-time goalscorer Yudai Imura in the 74th minute.

Coaching

Görres coaches several boys and girls teams of the Richmond Kickers. From January 2013 to the end of the 2016 season he was playing assistant coach of the professional team. He has the US Soccer National B license. During his time at ETSV Weiche and TSB Flensburg, he had already trained the C-youth of ETSV Weiche.
