Saskia Schüler's artistic work comprises a range of techniques based on a lengthy and meditative handicraft process. Issues of distance and closeness, time and memory are addressed. The formal language of the former Städel student is reminiscent of embroidery, tapestries, but also computer graphics. The pupil only uses the computer to collect motifs and create templates for their hand-made work. The artist transfers pixel rasters to graph paper or large-format canvases and creates sequences of lines with ink or colored pencils. Furthermore, hand drawings are created by juxtaposing sentences like “It's definitely better that way” (2007, green and blue ink on graph paper, 105 × 147 cm), which, from a distance, create the optical impression of woven carpets. Acrylic paintings on canvas have been created since 2007. In the most recent works, Schüler uses tweezers to place iron-on beads on pegboards and fix them by ironing. Photographs from the private sphere, snapshots of encounters or portraits of family and friends are processed.

The deliberate reduction of both the motifs and the limitation of the creative means determine the minimalist effect of these works. Schüler's "Pictures can also be understood as a kind of pictogram, as a formalized pictorial expression of the conceptual object behind them, which is tied to collective and individual experience." (Bernhard Röck, catalog text, Künstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral)
