The Sauofen is a 2415  m above sea level. A. high summit of the Schladminger Tauern in Upper Styria . It lies west of the Sölkpass .

Location and landscape

The Sauofen is located in the main ridge of the Niedere Tauern , between Katschtal near Schöder in the south, and Großsölktal with Sankt Nikolai im Sölktal in the north. The Katschbach goes south to the Mur. To the north, Bräualmbach to the west and Großsölkbach from the Sölkpass to the east converge in Sankt Nikolai.

A cross point of the ridge starts south of the Sauofen. The main ridge to the west (here: northwest) is followed by the shrine ( 2410  m above sea level ), and then the Süßleiteck  ( 2507  m above sea level ). The upper Etrachgraben goes to the southwest , and over the saddle of the Toreben (approx.  2170  m ) and the Dachleiteck ( 2463  m above sea level ) the ridge of the Rupprechtseck  ( 2591  m above sea level ). The Schödergraben goes south and the ridge of the Schöderkogel  ( 2500  m above sea level ) to the southwest . In the main ridge to the east (here: northeast) lies the Schimpelgrat (Kote 2395  m above sea level ) after the Reichlscharte  , and then the Deneck  ( 2591  m above sea level ). The ridge from the Schöderkogel via Sauofen and Deneck to the Sölkpass encircles the upper Katschgraben in an arched shape . To the northwest lies the Hüttkar, a side valley of the Schimpelbach in the Großsölktal .

The Etrachbach , Schöderbach , Katschbach (all to the Mur ) and the Hüttkar-Bach (only deep below in a spring lake, over the Sölk to the Enns ) arise at the Sauofen . In the three more western Karen are close to the summit several cirque lakes , lower down and the Sauofensee in Etrachgraben.

Oven is a name for prominent rock formations in the Eastern Alps, and here in the area.

Approach

You climb the mountain from the marked path from Schödergraben to Katschgraben, from which a path leads from the south to the summit. There is also only an unmarked path along the main ridge.
