history

In the context of the emerging high school associations, which developed more and more into connections, the Scaphusia was founded as the fourth association of this type in Switzerland on September 24, 1858 by Hermann Freuler together with four other fellow students.

While the motto in the early years was "litteris et amicitiae et patriae", at the end of the century before last the patriotic component was deleted and the motto was shortened to the current form "litteris et amicitiae".

As a sign of patriotic sentiments were colors or stripes of Scaphusia initially red and white. Under the colors one understands both the characteristic combination of mostly three colors as well as the badges cap , ribbon and beer tip in the connecting colors . In 1861, following the example of the Gymnasia Turicensis and other high school clubs, the blue-white-blue colors were introduced, which Scaphusians still wear today.

The beer names , also called Vulgo or Cerevis, have been common in Scaphusia based on the Zurich model since 1861. They are a symbol that a new phase of life begins for the Fuxe . In Germany, in the years before 1848, when student associations were officially banned, the beer names also served as camouflage.

In the Scaphusia the pubs were initially run informally, and there was no comment or fellowship - and Fuxentum.

The Fuxmajor and the Fuxenstall subordinate to him were introduced in 1865. From then on there was a distinction in the Aktivitas between the full-fledged boys and the subordinate newcomers, the Fuxen.

In 1866 the weekly Stamm or evening pint was introduced, which was held every Tuesday in the "Burg" near the Schwabentor. Since then the restaurant has changed a few times, and today the Scaphusians meet every Wednesday in the Falken restaurant.

The regulation of student manners and customs, the Comment , was introduced in 1872, which was taken over from the Paedagogia Basiliensis .

In 1890 in Basel and a short time later also in Zurich , former active members of the Scaphusia formed Alt-Scaphusianer- Kränzchen with the aim of keeping the memories of the beautiful Scaphusian time alive. In 1894 these groups merged and founded the Alt-Scaphusia in Schaffhausen in 1894. This aims “to cultivate sociability and friendship among former Scaphusians and to promote activitas”.

In 1919 Scaphusia joined forces with Thurgovia Frauenfeld , Vitodurania Winterthur and Rhetorika St. Gallen , which were a few years younger , and the Eastern Switzerland cartel was formed. The members of the cartel associations meet several times a year and thus establish contacts with other secondary schools.

organization

The scaphusia consists of two associations. The canton students who have joined form the Aktivitas , and the former active members, the old men, form the old men association .

Activitas

The Aktivitas consists of all active members. These include the boys, connoisseurs, Hospes perpetuus and the Fuxen. You shape the life of the connection and organize the events of the connection.

  • Konkneipanten are members of the Scaphusia who do not attend the canton school, but are accepted anyway due to their interest in the connection and their commitment.
  • Hospites perpetui are members who cannot attend every occasion due to lack of time. Often it is athletes, musicians or otherwise busy schoolchildren who, despite their interest in the connection, do not want to give up their successful leisure activity. What contribution they have to make is usually agreed with the boy before joining

Everyone who is the Scaphusia! joins, will go through a life path within the connection due to the hierarchical structure, as is usual in most connections. The first stage is that of the spefux who visits the compound as a guest. As a guest, he gets to know roughly the life of the union and can later decide to join. After the recordings, he becomes Fux and is therefore an official member of the association. From then on he has to fulfill certain tasks of the connection, but he does not have an official office. The Fuxenzeit serves to get to know the connection better and to get used to the connection life. The Fux therefore has fewer obligations, which in turn limits its rights. Only the freedom of fools allows him missteps that are easily ignored. During this time, the Fuxmajor is subordinate to the Kommers, who takes responsibility for the Fuxes, looks after them and also introduces them to the life of connections.

In order to become a boy, the Fux has to take a boy test at the end of his Fuxenzeit, which has the purpose of testing the knowledge of the Fuxen about the connection. After passing the boys' examination, he is boyified and must now take on one of the offices of the association. This gives him an important task that he must carry out to the best of his ability. After a year, the boy passed on his office and shortly before the high school graduation he became a prison boy who still belongs to Aktivitas. Towards the end of the year he can transfer to the old man's association if he wants to continue to be a member of the association.

Old gentlemen's association

The Association of Old Men was founded in 1894 by former active members. It is the last and therefore the longest stage of a liaison member. The old men not only support Aktivitas financially, but also help with school issues. You are released from the duties of the connection and can visit the connection for your whole life. The members lead a lively life of their own at various events of the AH Association (AH walks, AH tribes in the university cities of Zurich, Bern and Basel, etc.). The old gentlemen's association has more than 300 members and is managed by a board of directors.

Offices

The Scaphusia! has various offices that are taken over by the boys.

  • President (x): The President distributes the tasks and controls their completion. He leads the connection and takes responsibility for the activitas.
  • Actuary (xx): The actuary writes minutes of all events and represents the president.
  • Treasurer (xxx): The Treasurer manages the finances of Aktivitas.
  • The Fuxmajor (FM): He introduces the new Fuxes into the life of connections and is an important companion for the Fuxes during their Fuxes time

The accumulation of offices on one person is possible if too few boys are available.

Locality

In 1912, Scaphusia moved into the booth on the first floor of the Falken brewery's regular pub . Initially, the "Bude" consisted of two rooms, the separation of which was removed during the major renovation in 1930. The booth was continuously rebuilt and adapted to the times. In 2002, the booth was subjected to a sustainable renovation, which was financed by donations from members of the Old Scaphusia. In 2012 the Scaphusia celebrated the centenary of the booth in the booth.

Space connections

The Scaphusia! is not the only connection in Schaffhausen. But today four out of six connections are no longer active. The Commerica , founded in 1918 , an association for prospective merchants, is the only association besides Scaphusia !, which is still active. In 1908 the Munot abstinence association was founded, which has not been able to find any new members since the beginning of the 21st century. In 1923 the KTV Schaffhausen was founded, which today no longer exists as a connection but as a sports club. The Fortuna connection between the Schaffhausen students at the Technikum Winterthur still exists today in the form of the old men’s association, such as Munot and KTV. In 2005 the mixed connection Fidelitas was founded as a spin-off from the connection Munot, which however only existed for a short time.
