Cadastral community Schönbrunn and the surrounding area

Schönbrunn is one of the Viennese cadastral communities and is located in the 13th district of Hietzing . The cadastral community with an area of 220.55 hectares corresponds to the Schönbrunn Palace and Palace Park (including the Gloriette , Tiergarten and the other gardens in this area) and the Maria Theresa barracks .

Already listed in the Franziszeischen cadastre as a separate cadastral municipality in the tax district Hietzing in 1817 , it came to Vienna when the suburbs were incorporated in 1892 and has since been part of the 13th district.

To the east, the boundaries of the cadastral community correspond to the district boundary to the 12th district of Meidling or to the local cadastral community of this name on Grünbergstrasse and to the southeast and south to Hetzendorf . On Gaßmannstrasse and Am Fasangarten, the Maria-Theresien-Kaserne forms the southern end of the area. At the Elisabethallee there is an approximately 250 m long shared border with Speising , at Hietzinger Friedhof the western shared border with Alt-Hietzing begins , which mostly runs along Maxingstraße towards the Wienfluss . The river forms the district boundary to the 14th district of Penzing , but this boundary is not congruent with the boundaries of the cadastral communities, which were neglected when the 14th district was split off in 1938 (when the southern boundary of the new district on the right bank of Vienna was determined) was taken. To the east of the Kennedy Bridge, Schönbrunn protrudes a little bit into the 14th district, while conversely the cadastral communities of Penzing and Rudolfsheim have small portions of the area of the 13th district - the latter since 1992, since since then they have also included the area around the Auer Welsbach Park includes.

This results in the curiosity that the Schönbrunn underground station is divided between Schönbrunn and Rudolfsheim: the border between the cadastral communities runs right through the historic reception building of Otto Wagner . Conversely, the Hietzing subway station belongs to the Schönbrunn cadastral community, as does the court pavilion, also made by Wagner . The Schönbrunn Palace Bridge , on the other hand, does not belong to Schönbrunn : It is practically entirely in the area of the Penzing cadastral community.
