Schönenbach is a district of Furtwangen in the Black Forest in the Schwarzwald-Baar district in Baden-Württemberg .

geography

Schönenbach is 3 km east of Furtwangen. It consists of individual farms and groups of houses in the Bregtal and side valleys. There are numerous new buildings in the Obertal district.

history

The first documentary mention comes from the year 1221. After the end of the Zähringer rule, the place went to the Principality of Fürstenberg , where it belonged to the Vöhrenbach office and shared its rulership history with Linach . In 1806 the place came to the Grand Duchy of Baden through the Rhine Federation Act . Schönenbach was incorporated into Furtwangen on July 1, 1971 and has almost 1000 inhabitants.

Infrastructure

kindergarten

In 1995, the St. Nikolaus kindergarten was set up in Schönenbach's former schoolhouse. The sponsor is the Catholic parish or, today, the Bregtal pastoral care unit.

Village community center

An event room was set up in the basement of the former school, which is mainly used by associations.

Gym

The sports hall is used by various clubs, but also by Furtwangen University .

sports ground

The sports club "Sportfreunde Schönebach" operates a sports field on the site that formerly belonged to the Gasthaus "Sonne" and which today belongs to the city of Furtwangen. In 2013 the hard court was converted into a grass court. A training field was built in 2017. At the sports field, the sports fans also run a sports shop with changing rooms, showers and an event room.

societies

In addition to the football club, the music club and the choral society are the largest clubs in town.

Personalities

The sculptor Jakob Rappenegger (1683–1743), to whom the original field cross of the Witterschneekapelle in Löffingen is attributed, as well as a crucifixion group and a St. Kümmernis in the local parish church of St. Michael, lived in Schönenbach . The physicist Josef Zähringer (1929–1970) was born in Schönenbach .
