Linach is a district of Furtwangen in the Black Forest in the Schwarzwald-Baar district in Baden-Württemberg .

geography

Linach takes its name from the Linach stream, which rises on the border with Furtwangen and then flows into the Breg below Vöhrenbach (before Hammereisenbach-Bregenbach) . The upper part of the valley was an independent municipality that was incorporated into Furtwangen in 1972 . The lower part of the valley has always belonged to the town of Vöhrenbach . Therefore, the city of Vöhrenbach was able to build its hydroelectric power plant with the Linach dam in this part of Linach .

history

The Linach valley was first mentioned in a document in 1299 . There were disagreements between Count Gebhardt von Fürstenberg and the Salem Monastery because of the tithe . It was settled that the tithe in Linach is due to the Salem monastery. This litigation left a deed dated December 9, 1299. However, settlement began earlier.

The secular lords of Linach were the dukes of Zähringen until 1218 . When these died out, the rural settlement in Linach was probably closed. Count Egino V. von Urach was the first of the Zähringen heirs who also ruled the Baar from 1218 to 1237. Heinrich I von Fürstenberg transplanted the Counts of Urach to the Baar. He was related by blood to Rudolf von Habsburg , who was elected Roman-German King in 1273, and was one of his most important friends and helpers. Count Heinrich I became territorial lord of the valley community of Linach (1237–1284). On April 11, 1278, the Bishop of Konstanz confirmed that the parish of Herzogenweiler was now formally incorporated into the Salem monastery, and that Vöhrenbach and Schönenbach were still branches of Herzogenweiler, which means that Linach also belonged to the parish of Herzogenweiler. With the death of Heinrich I von Fürstenberg, the inheritance was divided and the northern part of the Baar, including Linach, came to the Haslach line of the Fürstenbergs, which existed for almost 100 years, from 1286 to 1386.

Josef Wilhelm Ernst von Fürstenberg, who was raised to the rank of prince in 1716, is the creator of the Fürstenberg political system and moved his residence to Donaueschingen and established his government there. The country was divided into 4 senior offices and 10 senior bailiffs. The Obervogteiamt Neustadt belonged to these ten, to which the Office Vöhrenbach belonged. 12 bailiwicks were established for the Vöhrenbach office, among which was the Linach bailiwick. As a result of the unification of the Fürstenberg territories into a whole, the prince was also able to dedicate his care to the school system.

In 1806, the Fürstenbergers had to cede both civil property and sovereignty to Grand Duke Karl Friedrich von Baden . Since then Linach has belonged to the state of Baden . Until 1811 (more likely 1808) Linach was administered from the Vöhrenbach office. From 1811 to 1814 there was the Neustadt Office and from 1814 to 1830 the Triberg Office . Again from 1830 to 1850 to the Neustadt Office and from 1850 to 1924 to the Villingen Office. In 1924 Linach was added to the Donaueschingen district.

On October 1, 1972, it was incorporated into Furtwangen.

Wendelink Chapel in Linach

The Linach people have belonged to this parish since the parish of Schönenbach was established in 1639. However, the Linachers visited the Schönenbacher church before that, when it was still a branch church of Vöhrenbach and this in turn was the branch church of the old mother parish of Herzogenweiler. The first chapel was built in Linach in 1608.

In 1886 the chapel was renovated and enlarged. The tower, the sacristy and the choir were renewed. In 1907, the chapel was restored and decorated. At the beginning of the 20th century, Linach had two bells on the tower. A larger bell was dedicated to St. Wendelin and the smaller of St. Maria. During the First World War, the larger Wendel bell was cast as war material.

After the renovation of the church floor in 1919, two bells were procured again in 1921. The larger one was again dedicated to St. Consecrated to Wendelin. The smaller one was dedicated to St. Consecrated to Aloisius. Two bells were also confiscated during the Second World War. The Marienglocke was left again.

In 1950 two bells could be obtained again. The big bell was dedicated to the fallen of both world wars and is also the death knell. The second, now the middle one, was again dedicated to St. Consecrated to Wendelin.

At the end of the 1970s, the outside of the chapel was renovated. So the roof was completely repaired and the tower and the belfry renewed and a weathercock was attached to its top, because the French soldiers had shot down the old one at the end of the war. The bells were given a chime.

The central aisle was renovated in the early 1990s. In 2004 the sacristy was renovated.

Father Franz Hettel has been the local chaplain of Schönenbach since 1982 and is therefore also responsible for Linach. Every two weeks there is a service on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel.

In 2008 the church's 400th anniversary was celebrated.

On the patronage as well as on Boxing Day, the harmonica association helps organize the service. On the Sunday of the Dead, the choir framed the service until 2006. Since then, the harmonica association has taken on this task. On Palm Sunday and Thanksgiving, the rhythm group enriches the service.

Linach dam

The Linachtalsperre reservoir in the Linach Valley is fed by the Linach stream. The Linachtalsperre (built 1922–1924) belongs to the town of Vöhrenbach , which is only a few kilometers from Linach and Furtwangen . With the construction of the dam, tourism was permanently brought to the small side valley of the Breg . After the shutdown of the hydropower plants in the 1960s and the draining of the "Linach Reservoir" in 1988, things have become a little quieter in the lower Linach Valley. In 2007 the rehabilitation of the Linach dam was completed and the lake is completely filled again. In the summer of 2008, an open-air theater called “De Linacher Stausee” took place beneath the dam and was organized by the Linach Harmonica Association.

Economy and Infrastructure

The earliest evidence of a trade in Linach dates back to 1485. While many used to work in agriculture and watchmaking, today most of the residents commute to the neighboring towns.

Agriculture

There have always been 10 farms in Linach, which were fiefs of the princely rule. Over several centuries, several houses were separated from these farms and given a few hectares of field and forest. Until a few years ago, part-time farming was practiced in these houses. Today almost all of them have given up this activity and the companies that still exist have gradually expanded. Some of these houses are still in their original, typical Black Forest design.

What is unique is that all of today's agricultural businesses in the Linach district work according to ecological guidelines. Today there are 8 full-time and part-time businesses in Linach.

Watchmaker

The watchmaking trade did not gain acceptance in Linach until the beginning of the 19th century after the Wars of Liberation. In the middle of the 19th century there were about 13 wooden watchmakers in Linach. Their number sank to 2 by 1905. There were also up to 4 clock shield makers or clock shield painters. Today only one watchmaker is active in this trade.
