The Schönermannalpe (also Alpe Schönermann or Alpe Schöner Mann ) is an alp on the mountainside above the village of Ebnit . Although it is located in the municipality of the Austrian city of Dornbirn , it is owned by the market town of Lustenau .

location

Schönermannalpe from the south.

The alp is located on the southern slope of the Wängkopf . The alpine hut is located about 700 m northwest of the Ebnit parish church at an altitude of 1383  m above sea level. A.

history

The Schönermannalpe was originally called "Vorderberg" by the Walsers from the Ebnitertal (the Hinterberg with the Hinterbergalpe is about 700 m as the crow flies, as seen to the northeast). The name “Schönenmann” was first mentioned in a document in 1570 in a “wood code” when it came to dividing forest areas into spell and fron forests.

On January 23, 1809, Countess Maria Walburga Waldburg-Zeil donated the Alpe Schönermann to the community of Lustenau. The occasion was a visit by the countess to the village, which at that time was still subject to her patrimonial jurisdiction .

In 1982 the original alpine hut was demolished, which is believed to be the original building several hundred years old. The design and style had shown parallels to the original hut of the "Herrenalpe" Altenhof .

use

The owner of the Alpe, the market town of Lustenau, leases the approximately 56 hectares of pasture and 69 hectares of forest to an agricultural community . Some of the milk obtained is processed into cheese in the in-house dairy .
