Schapow is a street tanger village in the municipality of Nordwestuckermark in Brandenburg with 680 inhabitants. The villages Wittstock , Rittgarten , Augustfelde and the settlement areas Bollmannshof , Fischershof and Dochower Mühle also belong to the district . Until October 31, 2001, Schapow was an independent municipality.
In the center of the village there is a stone church , which is visible from afar due to the flat environment. There is also a war memorial and a country inn in the center. The first documentary mention comes from 1302 as Willekino de Schapov . In 1321 the name was Scapov . There are two ways of interpreting the Slavic name. On the one hand it can be called “Place where Klepper, Schindmarus are” , but “Settlement of a man named Skapa” is also possible.
