history

Groß Sperrenwalde was first mentioned in a document in 1472 with the spelling Sparrenwalde . The place name is derived from the surname "Sparre". The corridor of Groß Sperrenwalde was evidently already settled in the 13th century, but the place became a desert during the 14th century . In 1439 the Feldmark Groß Sperrenwaldes was divided, the largest part was in the possession of the aristocratic family zu Arnim . In the 16th century the manor Groß Sperrenwalde was re-established. The place was then called Groß Sperrenwalde , the addition serves to distinguish it from Klein Sperrenwalde .

From 1899, Groß Sperrenwalde was connected to the Löwenberg – Prenzlau railway line with a train station . In 1945 the tracks were dismantled as reparations for the Soviet Union , and in 1953 the station was reopened. As early as September 30, 1928, the Groß Sperrenwalde manor district was converted into a rural community. Groß Sperrenwalde belonged to the Prenzlau district in the Prussian province of Brandenburg until 1952 ; during the GDR district reform, the community was incorporated into the reduced Prenzlau district in the Neubrandenburg district. On July 1, 1961, it was incorporated into Beenz . Since the turnaround and the Brandenburg district reform in 1993, the municipality of Beenz and Groß Sperrenwalde belonged to the Uckermark district . On May 1, 1998, the municipality of Beenz was dissolved and incorporated into Gollmitz .

On November 1, 2001, Gollmitz merged with nine other municipalities to form today's municipality of Nordwestuckermark , to which Groß Sperrenwalde has belonged since then.

Church ruins Groß Sperrenwalde
  • The church ruin Groß Sperrenwalde is the ruin of a field stone church that was built in the 13th century when the village was originally founded. The rectangular church tower and parts of the wall of the nave are still preserved today . The church was destroyed in the 15th century and not rebuilt when Groß Sperrenwaldes was re-established in the 16th century.
  • In Groß Sperrenwalde there is also the Gutshof Groß Sperrenwalde with an inspector's house and storage facility . The buildings were built between 1905 and 1910 when the landowner Gerhardt von Arnim had the manor extensively expanded. A much older manor house originally belonged to the manor complex, which was renovated in the course of the courtyard expansion. After the Second World War, the building was used as an orphanage until it burned down in 1947.
