The gagea spathacea ( Gagea spathacea ), whether ticket gallops Gold Star called, is a species of the genus yellow star ( Gagea ) in the family of Liliaceae (Liliaceae).

Vegetative characteristics

The sheath yellow star is a perennial herbaceous plant . It is a geophyte that has two bulbs enclosed by a common skin as a persistent organ.

The vaginal Yellow Star has two-tube-hollow stalk round to 1.5 millimeters wide basal leaves , the colorless in the middle Mark included.

Generative characteristics

The sheath yellow star is early flowering. The flowers are solitary or up to five in a shabby inflorescence . The hermaphrodite flowers are radial symmetry and threefold. The blunt, yellow tepals and the flower stalk are not hairy.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = approx. 104.

ecology

Typical for geophytes , the sheath yellow star survives the winter with its onions.

The pre-female flowers containing nectar are mostly pollinated by bees . The nectar is formed in septal nectaries, i.e. between the ovary fans. Germable seeds are seldom formed. If germinable seeds are formed, these are spread by ants .

Occurrence

The sheath yellow star blooms in April through May in light, moderately moist deciduous forests. Schleswig-Holstein is in the center of the area, otherwise it is only scattered in Germany. Its spread is currently decreasing. Its distribution area extends from Europe to the Caucasus. In Germany the Scheiden-Gelbstern is classified as a national type of responsibility within the national strategy for biological diversity of the federal government.
