The Schermauer Graben parallel to the west of the State Road 2111, seen upstream, looking towards Schermau, along the DGF 9 district road, next to which the water flows here (March 2019, before the renaturation work begins). At the bottom of the picture, the water disappears in a small passage and crosses under the state road 2111 in order to flow into the Asenbach after another 200 meters.

The Schermauer Graben is a left tributary of the Asenbach in Dingolfing , Lower Bavaria , and the only one besides the two source brooks of the Asenbach. It has its origin in the hamlet of Mietzing , flows from there in a north-easterly direction, and flows 1090 meters below (north) the confluence of the two source streams Holzhauser Graben and Aubach in the hamlet of Unterbubach into the Asenbach. It is named after the Dingolfing district of Schermau , which it flows through.

The body of water is not identified by name on the official map. Likewise, the name is not in the water register, but only its water code 167584. According to this water register, the Schermauer Graben is 2.98 kilometers long and has a catchment area of 349 hectares . In contrast, the name of the body of water is added to a map of the Dingolfing local group of the Bund Naturschutz .

In April 2019, the city of Dingolfing will start a measure to renaturate the Schermauer moat. The construction project should be completed by mid-2019, the costs will be around 200,000 euros.

Historical map of Apian

On the map by Philipp Apian (1568) Biburg ( Frauenbiburg ) lies between the source brooks of the Asenbach. The left source stream must therefore be the Schermauer Graben and not the actual source stream Holzhauser Graben.
