Schlammpeitziger is the pseudonym of the German musician Jo Zimmermann (* 1964 ). His purely instrumental pieces of music are produced with simple means ( low fidelity ) and are mostly based on the sounds of old Casio synthesizers . The project is also known among fans for the album and track titles that are often based on puns , such as Freundlichbaracudamelodieliedgut , Spacerokkmountainrutschquartier or Augenwischwaldmoppgeflöte .

The name refers to the amphibious bottom fish Schlammpeitzger .

Life

Zimmermann began experimenting with synthesizers in the mid-1980s. His first device was Casio CZ230-S , whose sound was characteristic of the typical Schlammpeitziger sound. In 1989 Zimmermann met the musician Jörg Follert (Wechsel Garland). Together with Follert and two other musicians, the band Hal's Dream was founded , which, however, broke up after a few appearances.

From then on Zimmermann produced himself and created the fictional character Schlammpeitziger in 1992. He chose the pseudonym based on the bottom fish Schlammpeitzger . In 1993 his debut album Erdrauchharnschleck was released on the Cologne label Entenpfuhl as a compact cassette limited to 100 copies . The album was remastered again in 1998 by Jan St. Werner and Andi Toma ( Mouse on Mars ) and was released again as a record on Entenpfuhl in 1999 , whereby four tracks were removed due to the shorter running time.

In 1994 the label gefriem, operated by Jan St. Werner and Felix Höfler ( FX Randomiz ), released the split album Let The Star Shine In / Burgfensterrhythmuskuckloch together with Vinicio Brunori (Master's Cosmic Music).

From 1996 Schlammpeitziger's albums appeared on the Cologne label A-Musik .

In the second half of the 1990s, Zimmermann teamed up with FX Randomiz for the Holosud project . The album Fijnewas Afpompen (1998) and the self-titled EP Holosud (1997) were released on A-Musik . In 2004, the duo directed the music for Stefan Weigl's radio play Stripped. A life in bank statements that was awarded the War Blind Radio Play Prize. Holosud once again contributed the music for Weigl's radio play Wait a minute, that will interest you . The radio play won the ARD Online Award and the ARD German Radio Play Prize at the ARD Radio Play Days.

Schlammpeitziger's unofficial best-of album Collected Simplesongs Of My Temporary Past was released in 2001 on the British label Domino Recording Company .

Zimmermann has been working with his partner, video artist Ulrike Göken, since 1996. Since 2003 she has supported all of Schlammpeitziger's live performances. The video shows resulting from the collaboration were released in 2010 as DVD Exotic Visuals and Tropical Videoworks on the label Raum für Projektion .

In 2008, Schwingstelle Für Rauschabzug, a Schlammpeitziger album, was released for the first time on Frank Dommert's label Sonig . In 2011, the album Vorschauende Bebauung followed on the same label . In 2014 Schlammpeitziger released his album What's Fruit , the first album on the Hamburg label Pingipung . His 2018 album Damenbartblick auf Pregnant Hill was also released on a Hamburg record label, this time Bureau B.
