The Schlatenbach is a small tributary from the Schladminger Tauern of the Enns near Pruggern not far from Schladming in Upper Styria .

Location and landscape

The stream rises on the Hühnerkogel  ( 1601  m above sea level ), a foothill of the Kalteck , in the Auberg forest. It runs through Pruggererberg , and only forms a narrow valley in its lower reaches on the steep step of the Ennstal , on the valley shoulder of Pruggererberg it is a meadow stream and a small ditch.

After exactly 2.5 kilometers, it flows into the Enns from the right at km 195.461 at Schlatenbach . The Ennstalbahn Bischofshofen – Selzthal, which runs between Enns and Bergfuß, crosses it directly at the mouth .

The catchment area covers about 1.6 km². The lower reaches roughly the border between Pruggern and Gössenberg .

Hydrology, geology and history

Like most of the other streams that come here from the Schladminger Tauern , the Schlatenbach tends towards debris flow and is classified as a torrent . Its catchment area is in the area of the Ennstaler Phyllite , easily weatherable slates of the Grauwackenzone , which only forms a narrow band in the Ennstal, and less solidified glacial sediments.

In the summer of 2000 the brook muddyed the Ennstal Railway after severe thunderstorms. On the evening of June 4, 2000, a regional train drove into the Mure and the locomotive derailed.
