The nature reserve Schlechtsarter Schweiz is located in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .

It extends east of Trappstadt , a market in the Lower Franconian district of Rhön-Grabfeld in Bavaria , and north of Gompertshausen , a district of Heldburg . The state road L 2671 runs to the east and the state border with Bavaria runs along the western edge of the area.
