Rötteln Castle and the surrounding area is a protected landscape area in the Lörrach district in Baden-Württemberg.

Location and description

The conservation area around Rötteln Castle, which is still around 51 hectares in size, is located north of the Lörrach core town and west of the Haagen district . It was created by ordinance of the then district office of Lörrach for the protection of parts of the landscape in the districts of Lörrach and Haagen on February 18, 1938. The protected area was larger at the time and also included areas south of the motorway.

The protected area forms the natural continuation of the LSG Tüllinger Berg north of the A 98 only separated by the motorway . It belongs to the natural area 201 - Markgräfler Hügelland within the natural spatial main unit 20 - Southern Upper Rhine Lowland .

Protection purpose

The main protection purpose of the landscape protection area is to secure an important local recreation area by maintaining a landscape that is still intact in its basic features with characteristic landscape forms in an excellent landscape location and environment (especially tree gardens, bushes, meadows, forest edge).
