Southwestern Dinkelberg is a protected landscape area in the district of Lörrach in Baden-Württemberg.

Location and description

The approximately 1,390 hectare protected landscape area consists of two sub-areas. It is located southeast of the city of Lörrach and extends to the districts of Herten and Degerfelden of the city of Rheinfelden. It was created by ordinance of the Lörrach District Office of May 6, 2013. At the same time, the Lörrach District Office's ordinance of March 25, 1986 on the landscape protection area Wasserschloß Inzlingen expired .

The protected area belongs to the natural areas 160- Hochrheintal and 161- Dinkelberg within the natural spatial main unit 16- Hochrheing area .

Protection purpose

According to the Protected Areas Ordinance, the main protection purpose of the landscape protection area is:

  • the preservation of diversity, uniqueness and beauty of nature and landscape with its characteristic communities of animals and plants,
  • the preservation of the area as a diverse and large-scale, near-natural compensation area in the Lörrach-Basel agglomeration zone,
  • the safeguarding and development of the area as an attractive, natural recreation area for the municipalities and cities,
  • the conservation and protection of an area of ​​particular importance from an ornithological point of view (e.g. woodpeckers, birds of prey and bird species in the orchards),
  • the preservation of plant communities typical of the natural area such as beech forests of various forms, oak and hornbeam forests, maple-ash canyon forests, maple-linden block forests and black alder-ash forests as well as orchards, grasslands rich in bases and wetlands,
  • the preservation of geological features of the karst landscape such as sinkholes, streams, springs, the sinter spring on the Volkertsberg and dry valleys.
