Schlomo Salman Auerbach

Schlomo Salman Auerbach ( Shlomo Zalman Auerbach , Yiddish אויערבאך Oyerbach , born July 20, 1910 in Jerusalem ; died February 19, 1995 in Jerusalem) was a famous rabbi , Posek and head of the Yeshiva Kol Torah in Israel .

Schlomo Salman Auerbach was the most sought-after decisor of his time, respected by all groups of orthodoxy . Over 200,000 people attended his funeral in 1995.

Life

Auerbach came from an important family of scholars of Orthodox Judaism, he was born as the eldest son of Rabbis Chajim Leib Auerbach and Tzvivya Auerbach.

He studied at the Eitz Chaim Yeshiva in Jerusalem, then at the Kollel Kerem Zion under Rabbi Zwi Pesach Frank . At the age of eleven he is said to have known the treatise Kiddushin by heart. His first major published work, which was highly praised by Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski , was titled Me'orei Esh , the first publication on the subject of the use of electricity on Shabbat .

The rabbi had seven sons and an unknown number of daughters; several of his sons became rabbinical authorities of ultra-Orthodox Judaism , such as his eldest son Shmuel Auerbach or Azriel Auerbach .

Trivia

The settlement of Ramat Shlomo ( Hebrew רמת שלמה) in the north of Jerusalem is named after Auerbach.
