Pöring Castle is a castle in the north of today's Pitzling , a district of Landsberg am Lech . It contains Gothic elements, but was restored in the 19th century in a neo-Gothic style.

history

Castle Church

The castle was built in the 9th or 10th century in the village of Pöring (1140 Peringin) and was owned by the monastery of Wessobrunn as well as a fiefdom . It was owned by the von Peringen family from the 14th century.

The von Holdingen family lived in the castle from 1546 to 1694. They owned the "Mother of God on the Ship", a statue of the Virgin Mary from the 15th century, which from 1731 onwards initiated the pilgrimage to Pöring. Since the pilgrims came in large numbers, the small castle chapel was replaced by the castle church.

The castle church Pöring Maria von der Reconciliation was built between 1764 and 1766 . The stucco work comes from Dominikus Zimmermann . After the onslaught of pilgrims flattened out, Zimmermann had to make the church simpler and eventually even do the paintings himself.

In 1844 Karl Freiherr von Leoprechting bought the castle, who lived there until 1857. Frequently changing owners followed. The castle has been in the possession of the Baltic German von Nolcken family since 1920 .
