Burgstall Rauenlechsberg

The Burgstall Rauenlechsberg , also called Rauhenlechsberg or Lechsberg , is an abandoned spur castle at 690  m above sea level. NHN high mountain spur above the confluence of the Rottbach in the Lech near the district Rauhenlechsberg of the municipality of Apfeldorf in the district of Landsberg am Lech in Bavaria .

The castle was built in the 12th century by the lords of Haltberg ( Burghaltenberg ) and was mentioned in 1252 as "nova urbs Lechisberg". At the end of the 13th century it was owned by the Wittelsbach family and from 1315 a Wittelsbach- Bavarian foster seat . Around 1530 the Lords of Rechberg were named as carers.

During the Thirty Years' War the castle was destroyed by Swedish troops in 1632 or 1648 and then rebuilt. In 1799 it was partly broken off and in 1802 the nursing court was repealed. The keep was demolished in 1833 and a memorial stone was erected on the castle grounds in 1859 and the remaining remains of the wall were removed in 1883.

The square keep ("Römerturm") was on the southern edge of the rectangular castle square with an attached curtain wall and a gatehouse . To the east of the keep stood the simple residential buildings with gable roofs . Only the neck moat that separated the castle square in the west from the plateau and the overgrown foundations of the former castle complex have been preserved.

350 meters east of the castle stable is a tower hill , probably the location of a watchtower of the castle.
