The Hurlach Castle is located in the municipality Hurlach in the district of Landsberg am Lech . It is a rectangular, five-storey gable roof building with four corner towers, an octagonal cupola bay and a stepped gable in the Renaissance style . The building on the Lechfeld, visible from afar, has been preserved in almost its original state. The castle is entered in the list of monuments.

history

In 1607/08 the Fuggers acquired the Hofmark Hurlach. The high castle was built around 1610 by the Landsberg keeper Markus Fugger (1587–1629) in Kirchberg and Weißenhorn in the form of the Renaissance. The Fuggers, who already sold the Hofmark Hurlach and the castle in 1643/52, had laid out a large flower and orchard around the imposing building. Over the centuries the castle owners changed again and again. These included the noble families Langenmantel , Pembler, Donnersberg, Karwinsky, Leyen , Horlacher and Schnurbein . Otto von Schnurbein, who bought the castle in 1898, had the building completely renovated under the direction of Jean Keller . Extensions by architect Hans Schnell (1904) give the castle its appearance, for example the crenellated pigeon tower from 1905/06 above the castle passage. The coat of arms of the von Schnurbein family is located above the entrance portal.

Todays use

In 1965 the castle came to the SOS Children's Village Association , which set up a youth psychiatric ward there. Since 1972 it has been owned by the Christian mission organization Youth with a Mission (YWAM), which uses the castle as a training and education center.
