History and architecture

"Cunrad von Bühlow on Plütschow and Scharffsdorf"

Since 1450 Plüschow (formerly mostly called Plüskow ) was owned by the von Bülow family . In 1758 the Hamburg merchant Philipp Heinrich Freiherr von Stenglin acquired the estate as a summer residence. The simple, two-story brick building with eleven axes was built in 1763 for Stenglin and his wife.

The Mecklenburg Hereditary Prince Friedrich Ludwig bought the building and the lands in 1802. It remained in the family's possession until it was expropriated in 1945. After the Second World War , war refugees were first housed in the building and then it was used for various communal purposes such as a company kitchen, kindergarten, restaurant and administration. The center of the façade is upgraded on both the courtyard and the garden side by gabled dwelling houses . The portals in the building are crowned with rocailles . The cellars are vaulted. The edging of the courtyard portal was renewed in sandstone in 1910. The court gable shows a clock face and a striking bell from 1763. A veranda was added to the garden side at the end of the 19th century. The castle was extensively renovated between 1991 and 2002.

The room layout inside the building is largely unchanged. The upper floor is accessed by a staircase with a large double flight of stairs. On the upper floor there are three classicist ovens from around 1810. The spacious hall and other ground floor rooms are equipped with rococo stucco ceilings .

Todays use

The spacious rooms are sponsored by the Förderkreis Schloss Plüschow e. V. used as an artist's house with exhibition rooms, studios and workshops. A permanent exhibition shows the history of the castle. The creative workshop for children offers art, sound, theater and environmental projects. It is funded by the State Youth Welfare Office Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the Youth Welfare Office of the Northwest Mecklenburg District.
