Schmidham is a district of the market in Ruhstorf an der Rott in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau .

location

Schmidham is located in the Isar-Inn hill country about eight kilometers northwest of Ruhstorf. The Eierbach forms the border with the Berg district immediately to the east .

history

Smideheim , the "home of the blacksmith", was given its name in the 7th century at the time of the Agilolfingers . After 1000 the Counts of Vornbach were lords of the Lower Rottal and thus Schmidhams as well. 1165 gave Margrave Berthold III. of Andechs , the heir to the last front Bacher counts, the monastery Vornbach half a Hube in Smidehaimen .

The noble free von Schmidham appear in the document books of Asbach Abbey and Aldersbach Abbey . In 1140 Poppo and Ouldarich von Smideheim witnessed an Aldersbach donation and in 1180 Werenher de Smideheim was the first to witness a handover to Aldersbach. In 1170 Walter de Smidheim and Uldarich de Smideheim appear in donations to the Asbach monastery. In 1220/40 Hainrich von Smidhaim appears as a censor .

Since the 15th century Schmidham was part of the Berg Obmannschaft in the office in front of the forest of the Griesbach district court . The goods around Schmidham were direct to the regional court, so that the regional court had lower and higher jurisdiction as well as administrative sovereignty. The church and school were in the smaller neighboring town of Berg.

In 1810, the Schmidham tax district was formed from parts of the Höhenstadt and Berg committees. The community Schmidham, which was established in 1818 with the second community edict, coincided with the tax district and initially comprised 23, later 25 districts.

On the basis of a municipal council resolution of September 24, 1971, the municipality of Schmidham was incorporated into the municipality of Ruhstorf an der Rott on January 1, 1972 as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
