The Schneider peak is around 1300  m high mountain near the Black Coast in Palmer land on the Antarctic Peninsula . In the Schirmacher Massif, it rises 10 km west-southwest of Mount Geier near the head end of the Rankin Glacier .

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) mapped it using its own measurements and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1966 to 1969. Together with the British Antarctic Survey , the USGS visited the mountain during geological explorations between 1986 and 1987. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1988 after the US cartographer David L. Schneider (* 1943), who worked on satellite geodesy at the Australian Casey Station in 1974 and was involved in the rescue of Australian employees during ice core investigations at the Law Dome in March 1974 their snowmobile fell into a deep crevasse .
