The high-speed line Naples - Salerno is one of the most important north-south connections in Italy and is an important section of the TEN axis No. 1 . This relatively new line enables rail transport on the coast to be separated from the Naples – Salerno and Caserta – Salerno lines .

The route runs through the territory of the municipalities of Volla , Pomigliano d'Arco , Anastasia , Somma Vesuviana , Nola , Ottaviano , San Gennaro Vesuviano , Palma Campania , Poggiomarino and Striano and reaches the municipality of San Valentino through a series of small artificial tunnels or dams Torio .
