The Schrattenfluh (also Schrattenflue ) is a mountain range in the south of the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland . According to an alpine guide from the Swiss Alpine Club , it is located in the Lucerne Pre-Alps , part of the Central Swiss Pre-Alps , according to other classifications in the Emmental Alps .
location
The Schrattenfluh mountain range stands out clearly from the pre-alpine hill country of the Emmental and the Napf . The approximately 6 km long mountain range runs - like many other mountain ridges in the Swiss Pre-Alps - in a north-east-south-west direction. The mountain range is limited in the south by the Emme valley , in the north by the Hilferenpass and in the east by the Waldemme valley . The Schrattenfluh is separated from the Brienzer Rothorn chain in the southeast by the wide pass at Salwiden .
The Schrattenfluh has four distinctive peaks: Schibengütsch ( 2037 m above sea level ) on the southwest corner, Hengst (at 2093 m above sea level the highest elevation in the mountain range), Hächlen (2089 m above sea level) and Strick (1946 m above sea level) in the northeast.
Cart fields
The northwest flank of the Schrattenfluh is steep, with rock bands and mountain pastures alternating. The ridge slopes down relatively gently to the southeast. This is where the extensive, mostly vegetation-free barrow fields of the Schrattenkalks are located with numerous caves (largest cave: Neuchâtel cave ). The Schrattenfluh is one of the largest contiguous cart fields in Switzerland and is systematically examined by speleologists .
The impressive karst landscape of the Schrattenfluh forms a natural monument of national importance ( biosphere reserve ).
