The Schreierkopf is a 2198 meter high summit in the north ridge of the Balschtespitze . It is located in the Hornbach chain in the Allgäu Alps .

Location and surroundings

The Schreierkopf is located in the Austrian state of Tyrol in the municipality of Hinterhornbach . It rises south over the farthest Hornbachtal . The north ridge that carries the Schreierkopf separates the Schöneggerkar in the west from the Kreuzkar in the east. From the Schreierkopf to the south, the ridge descends into the Kreuzkarscharte (2125 m) and is therefore the reference for the height of the Scharten . Further south the ridge runs up to the Balschtespitze, on the flank of which the reference point for dominance is located 0.5 kilometers away .

geology

The Schreierkopf is built from the brittle main dolomite .

Origin of name

A Schreyerkopf is mentioned for the first time in 1797 on Schmitt's map of southwest Germany . In the origin of the name, the verb scream seems to play a role. The summit could have been the place where you screamed , but the why cannot be interpreted.

Ascent

The normal route to the Schreierkopf leads easily on path tracks from the Schöneggerkar and the notch to the Balschtespitze to the summit.
