The Schwalb , also called Schwalbach , is a 14 km long brook in the Bavarian district of Donau-Ries , which flows downstream from Bühl im Ries in the area of ​​the city of Harburg (Swabia) from the left and east into the lower Wörnitz . The so-called Schwalbquelle , a water-rich karst spring north of Gosheim , feeds the stream only at the middle course. The body of water is also considered to be the namesake for a county, the Sualafeldgau , that emerged during the early medieval Franconian expansion to the east .

Upper course

The uppermost course of the Schwalb begins less than a kilometer southeast of the Fünfstettener church village Heidmersbrunn in a small wood surrounded by a field at a little over 515  m above sea level. From here the young stream flows in all in all in a south-westerly direction through the corridor to about the Schwalbenberg north of Fünfstetten, after which it turns west and soon crosses under the DON 20 district road. Walking past the Upper and Lower Beutmühle, in addition to the Hühnerberg, which is already part of it, in the now deepened valley, he reaches a larger forest area on the eastern edge of the Ries , where he changes to the area of ​​the municipality of Huisheim .

Lower course

The swallow then flows further west past the Unter-, Mathes-, Stadel-, Stoffel-, Pfleger-, Herber-, Haunzenmühle as well as the Neumühle and the Anhäuserhöfe, which are already in Alerheimer area, and then turns to the southwest. It crosses Bühl im Ries , finally crosses the Heroldinger submarket of the small town of Harburg (Swabia) and then flows into the lower Wörnitz from the left shortly before the southern edge of the Ries .
