Tanja and Ottmar, a retired couple, have transferred their bakery to their daughter and want to spend their retirement in the Thai seaside resort of Pattaya . While Tanja is interested in the country and its people, Ottmar lacks work. In town he met the German Max, who suggested an interesting business for him: They could offer a bakery specializing in German baked goods, and an empty shop was already ready. At a meeting, Max announced that the store had to be bought as soon as possible. Ottmar then signs a contract with a lawyer.

When Ottmar wants to show his wife the shop, the keys don't fit in the lock and there is no connection on Max's phone number. With his signature, Ottmar had given the fraudster Max a power of attorney, the assets are now gone and Ottmar is in despair. His wife also distances herself from him. She no longer sees anything in common between them and follows a nurse to a village in the jungle.

Together with the dropout Becky, Ottmar follows to that village. Since Becky dies unexpectedly, a cremation is celebrated. The former judge Lobinger, suffering from dementia, can remember a clause according to which a person distant from the family is only allowed to collect 40,000 euros. A year later, the couple are happily together again and Ottmar has accepted a sideline job as a baker in a German beer garden in Pattaya .
