The Schweriner See is a naturally formed body of water in the area of the municipality of Schwerin in the Dahme-Spreewald district in Brandenburg .

Location and description

The lake belongs to the chain of lakes Teupitz , which extends from Teupitzer See in the west to the Dahme in the east. It lies on the edge of the Dahme-Heideseen nature park . A peninsula , the Schweriner Horst , separates Lake Schwerin from Lake Teupitz. Its water surface is around 237 hectares . The inflow comes from the Teupitzer See from the west; the runoff over the 400 meter long Mochgraben into the Zemminsee . The water is located west of the community center of Schwerin. To the northwest, the district of Töpchin joins the city of Mittenwalde . Groß Köris , Schwerin and Teupitz follow in a clockwise direction .

Tourism and use

Lake Schwerin has been used for tourism as part of the Teupitz lake landscape since around 1900. Villas and two guest houses were built on the shore. In 1924 the sailing club Schwerin was founded , which carried out regattas with up to 150 boats. As part of the federal waterway , it can be used with motor boats. There are two campsites on the northern bank. In the west there is a canoe club, while the southern bank is characterized by residential developments. There is a bathing area on Mochheidestrasse that is monitored by the state. The Schwerin Horst was parceled out and built on from 1928 after a petition for the establishment of a natural monument did not find the required majority.

The water quality from 2012 to 2015 was rated “excellent” in 2016 by the State Office for Occupational Safety, Consumer Protection and Health.
