Schwertzell is the name of an old Hessian noble family .

history

With Volpert Svercel, the family was first mentioned in a document on July 12, 1264. The family line begins with Volpert Schwertzell, who appeared in a document between 1318 and 1320.

The Schwertzell were enrolled in the Althessian knighthood . Important estates of the family were Willingshausen , Ottrau and Schrecksbach with the Schwertzell castle seat , as well as Rückershausen since 1576 and Rommershausen since 1765 .

The coat of arms is split into gold on the right and silver on the left with three red diagonal bars . On the helmet with red and gold covers on the right and red and silver covers on the left , an open flight marked like the halves of the shield . In Siebmacher's coat of arms books it is also mirrored or shown with silver diagonal bars in red (or also in blue).
