Scott D. Emr

Scott David Emr (born February 8, 1954 in Jersey City ) is an American cell biologist and geneticist .

Emr earned a Ph.D. from Harvard Medical School in 1981. in molecular genetics . As a postdoctoral fellow he worked with Randy W. Schekman at the University of California, Berkeley , before receiving his first professorship ( assistant professor , then associate professor ) at the California Institute of Technology in 1983 . In 1991 he moved to a full professorship at the University of California, San Diego , where he also conducted research for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute .

Since 2007 he has been the founding director of the Weill Institute for Cell and Molecular Biology and Professor of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Cornell University .

Scott D. Emr et al are concerned with controlling cell communication and membrane transport means phosphoinositide kinases , protein kinases , selective ubiquitin polymorphs and vesicle mediated transport processes, including ESCRT , (endosomal sorting complexes required for transport) .

Emr has (as of March 2018) an h-index of 123.

Emr received the Van Deenen Medal from the Institute of Biomembranes in 2014 and the Keith R. Porter Lecture from the American Society for Cell Biology in 2017 . In 1998 he was elected a member of the American Academy of Microbiology (an award from the American Society for Microbiology ), in 1999 a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science , in 2004 a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences , and in 2007 of the National Academy of Sciences and in 2008 the European Molecular Biology Organization .
