George Scott Robert Henderson (born April 15, 1943 in Calgary , Alberta ; usually Scott Henderson called) is a retired Canadian ski racer and trainer .
biography
At the beginning of his sports career, Henderson also did cross-country skiing and ski jumping until he turned entirely to alpine skiing in 1960. In the mid-1960s he won five Canadian championship titles (downhill in 1965 and 1966, giant slalom 1966, slalom 1966 and 1967). He was also the Australian giant slalom champion in 1967 and the American champion in downhill and combined in the following year.
At the 1966 World Championships in Portillo , Henderson was seventh in the combined and eleventh in the giant slalom. In 1967 he competed in the first season of the Alpine Ski World Cup and was six times in the top ten. His best result was a fourth place, achieved on March 11, 1967 in the slalom in Franconia . In 1968 he took part in the Winter Olympics in Grenoble and reached 21st place in the giant slalom.
In 1969 Henderson resigned from elite sport and subsequently worked for the Canadian Amateur Ski Association. From 1972 to 1977 he was the head coach of the men's national team and in this role was largely responsible for the success of the “ Crazy Canucks ” in the World Cup. He then moved to Colorado and worked as a manager in various areas of skiing.
