Sebastián Ignacio Vegas Orellana (born December 4, 1996 in Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean football player who is currently under contract as a loan player from the Mexican first division club Mazatlán FC with the league rivals CF Monterrey . The central defender has been a Chilean international since May 2018 .

Career

Sebastián Vegas began his professional career at Audax Italiano , a club from La Florida . In the first team he made his debut on July 7, 2013 in a 2-2 draw against CD Magallanes in the Copa Chile . The central defender made his debut in the top Chilean league on August 11, 2013 (3rd matchday of Apertura) in a 1-1 draw against CD O'Higgins . His first league goal was on April 7, 2014 (14th matchday of Clausura) in a 3-0 home win against Deportes Iquique . In his first 2013-14 season, he played 15 league games in which he scored a goal. In the next season 2015/16 he was used 20 times, but this time he did not score. In the 2016/17 season, too, he failed to score in 19 league appearances.

On June 27, 2016, Vegas moved in a loan deal to the Mexican first division club Monarcas Morelia , who secured a purchase option for him. He made his competitive debut on July 28, 2016 in a 3-0 home win against Alebrijes de Oaxaca FC in the Copa MX . He made his league debut on October 2, 2016 (12th matchday of Apertura) in the 1: 2 away defeat against Deportivo Guadalajara . In the 2016/17 season he played 15 league games. The Canarios pulled the purchase option of 1.25 million euros and made him an integral part of the club.

On August 23, 2017 (6th matchday of Apertura) he scored his first goal in the Monarcas Morelia jersey in the 2-1 away win against the UNAM Pumas . Four days later, he met again in a 2-0 home win against Club America . In this 2017/18 season he was used in 26 league games. In the following Apertura in 2018 he scored four goals in eight appearances. In the Clausura 2019 he was used in all 17 games, but remained without a goal. In the 2019/20 season , which was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic , he played 29 league games in which he scored two goals.

After Monarca's Morelia was dissolved at the end of the season, Vegas trained with the successor club Mazatlán FC from June 2020 . In July 2020, the newly founded club finally took over the central defender and provided him with a three-year contract. Already on July 14, 2020 Vegas was for the entire season 2020/21 to the league rivals CF Monterrey borrowed. The Rayados were already connected with him in January 2020 and also secured a purchase option.

National team

Sebastián Vegas represented his home country in various junior national teams. He received his first nomination for the A selection in mid-January 2015, but did not make his debut for the time being. Two years later he was back in the squad in friendly matches against Croatia and Iceland . But he had to wait again for his debut. He finally gave this on May 31, 2018 in the 3-2 defeat in the friendly international match against Romania , when he was in the starting line-up and was substituted for Miiko Albornoz at halftime . On November 17 of the same year, he scored in the 3-2 defeat in the Test against Costa Rica for the first time for La Roja .
