Sebastian Hess (* 1971 in Munich ) is a German cellist , composer and producer.

Act

From 1986 Hess studied at the music academies in Würzburg and Munich with Julius Berger and Helmar Stiehler . At the same time he attended master classes by János Starker , Siegfried Palm , Boris Pergamenschikow and Radu Aldulescu . From 1990 to 1994 Sebastian Hess was part of the William Pleeth student group in London , and in 1997 was one of the few selected master students of Mstislav Rostropovich .

The spectrum of Sebastian Hess' musical activities ranges from historical performance practice on the baroque violoncello and the interpretation of the great classical-romantic works of the repertoire to an intensive examination of the music of our time. Hess works with numerous contemporary composers, such as Moritz Eggert , Jörg Widmann , Hans-Jürgen von Bose , Mikis Theodorakis and Hans Werner Henze .

In terms of chamber music, he works with a wide range of artists, such as the Henschel Quartet , Panocha Quartet , Wolfgang Sawallisch , Eugene Istomin , Juri Baschmet , Pierre Amoyal , Thomas Riebl , Ana Chumachenco , Anthony Spiri , Benjamin Schmid , Franz Halasz , Siegfried Mauser and Moritz Eggert .

Sebastian Hess has been awarded several prizes, such as the Music Prize of the Federation of German Industry (BDI), the Music Prize of the Bavarian State Government and was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation. In addition to numerous international master classes, Sebastian Hess teaches at the University of Music and Theater in Munich .

Since 2000, Sebastian Hess has increasingly appeared as a composer, producer and program designer. The cooperation with the Bavarian State Opera (Festspiel +) was particularly successful in the years 2003–2006, which produced several productions that were enthusiastically received by the public and the press (together with Andreas Ammer ).
