Sebelio Peralta Álvarez

Sebelio Peralta Álvarez (born September 19, 1939 in Borja , † November 19, 2014 in Asunción ) was a Paraguayan clergyman and bishop of San Lorenzo .

Life

Sebelio Peralta Álvarez entered the minor seminary in Villarrica and studied philosophy and theology at the diocesan seminary in Asunción. He was ordained a priest on December 19, 1964 in Borja . After working in pastoral care in Carapeguá, Ybycuí, Caazapá, Maciel and Sgdo, he studied theology at the Theological Faculty of Buenos Aires and was a professor at the Paraguay Seminary.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on March 5, 1979 auxiliary bishop in Villarrica and titular bishop of Inuca in Mauretania . He was ordained episcopate on May 1, 1979 by the Archbishop of Asunción , Felipe Santiago Benítez Ávalos ; Co- consecrators were Angel Nicolás Acha Duarte , Bishop of Carapeguá , and Jorge Adolfo Carlos Livieres Banks , Auxiliary Bishop in Asunción. He was particularly committed to family pastoral care in the Bishops 'Conference of Paraguay and in the Latin American Bishops' Conference CELAM .

On April 19, 1990 he was appointed Bishop of Villarrica del Espíritu Santo. Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on December 27, 2008 Bishop of San Lorenzo . In the Paraguayan Bishops' Conference (CEP) he took over the leadership of the commissions for the seminaries and the National Liturgy Commission.

He died of complications from a heart condition.
