The Roman Catholic Diocese of Villarrica del Espíritu Santo ( lat. : Dioecesis Villaricensis Sancti Spiritus , span. : Diócesis de Villarrica del Espiritu Santo ) is an in Paraguay located Roman Catholic diocese based in Villarrica .
history
The diocese of Villarrica del Espíritu Santo was on May 1, 1929 by Pope Pius XI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Universi Dominici from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Asunción as Diocese of Villarrica . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Asunción as a suffragan . On January 19, 1957, the Diocese of Villarrica gave parts of its territory to the establishment of the Diocese of San Juan Bautista de las Misiones . The diocese of Villarrica gave on January 21, 1957 parts of its territory to establish the territorial prelature Encarnación y Alto Paraná . Another assignment of territory took place on June 5, 1978 to establish the Carapeguá diocese .
The diocese of Villarrica was renamed on January 13, 1990 in the diocese of Villarrica del Espíritu Santo .
