Sebold Bocksdorfer
Sebold Bocksdorfer (* in the 15th century in Memmingen ; † 1519 in Innsbruck ) was a picture carver, sculptor, carver, sculptor and craftsman.
Life
Bocksdorfer is documented in the Innsbruck Rait books from 1496 to 1519 and worked for the court of Emperor Maximilian I and the Tyrolean nobility. He is considered a master of the Inntal sepulchral art . He mainly made gravestones and death signs, carved coats of arms and made several altars together with the painter Sebastian Scheel .
Works
Sebold Bocksdorfer embodies the transitional style between late Gothic and early Renaissance. It was related to the realism of Jörg Kölderer and a typical representative of the art around Emperor Maximilian.

In the parish church in Mühlbach bei Brixen there is a tomb for Bernhard Beheim the Elder († 1502), in the collegiate church and in the cloister in Neustift bei Brixen the tomb of the knight Christoph Truchseß von Staatz († 1511) by him. There are also seven epitaphs from him in the Wilten monastery and cloister, including the epitaph for Oswald von Hansen († 1499). He created the altars in Ambras as well as the George altar there in the castle from 1508 to 1510. He carved a winged altar for the Tratzberg castle chapel , which was consecrated in 1508. Only the seated Saint Catherine and two donor statuettes from the predella are preserved.
