Seelbach (desert)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seelbach is a suspected desertification in the Rheingau-Taunus district . The village of Seelbach was probably located in the northeastern part of the municipality of Aarbergen , approx. 1.5 km north of the Panrod district and approx. 1.0 km northwest of Hünstetten - Ketternschwalbach in the Seelbachtal . In the vernacular, there is talk of two different desert areas (Ober- and Niederseelbach), as the field names upper and lower Seelbach occur on the floodplain of the Seelbach . The name Seelbacherpfad (Kehrein 1872) is also known in the district of Ketternschwalbach. The exact location of the desert is not known. Occurrences of the small evergreen indicate a location on the lower reaches of the saithe. They can be traced back to a probably high medieval planting. The often assumed location in the vicinity of the old castle wall appears unlikely.

Historical classification

The village was first mentioned together with the neighboring settlements in the year 879. The village is said to have been desolate by 1570 (Schmidt 1962). A process of devastation that is said to have only taken place during the Thirty Years' War , as is sometimes widespread and noted on local display boards, is therefore wrong. The desolation process probably already took place during the late medieval period of desolation . In the vicinity of the presumed village location there are numerous agricultural margins , as well as the Fliehburg Altschloss , which is probably related to the settlement. According to literature (Kehrein 1872), Seelbach parish probably first to Werschau and from the 14th century to Panrod .
