Affair is a German television comedy from 2014. In the main role, Claudia Michelsen plays a successful businesswoman and mother whose life changes suddenly when she learns about her husband's affair.

action

Fiona is a career woman and mother, she masters her everyday life with her organizational talent and actually has everything under control. By chance, however, she finds out that her husband Ben got her neighbor Julia pregnant during a one-off affair. He didn't say anything to Fiona for eight months. For him this was a slip-up, he would pay alimony. Fiona doesn't see it that way and calls a family council. She explains to her children and mother with a presentation that Ben and Julia had "sexual intercourse" and that they are expecting a little half-sibling. Julia will now move in with them so that he can show that he can be a responsible husband and father. At least this is what Fiona's happy family plan looks like. Since Julia's musician friend Dennis also comes in and out, flat-sharing relationships are created. From now on, birth preparation courses or band rehearsals take place in the house. Fiona's mother smokes marijuana, so daughter Paulette also uses it and Fiona has to pick her up from school, stoned. Conflicts within the family emerge that are related to Fiona's successful working life. Paulette complains that her mother Fiona "isn't even there when she is there". So she tries to change that, stays at home, watches the band rehearsals and even jumps on the trampoline, breaking an arm. She regains access to the family and also to Ben. In the end, she also takes Julia to the hospital and is there when little Oscar is born. However, she must be at work right after an important presentation. Here she opts for an extremely daring but human presentation. She is then on leave from her angry boss and withdraws from a friend. However, it turns out that her introduction was very well received by the business partners and her boss begs her to come back. She uses this to demand more salary. The film ends with a little introduction of Fiona's family who wish Fiona to return and they can be a normal family again. Fiona replies "Okay".

reception

According to the lexicon of international films , the film is "a swinging (television) family comedy, which derives some thoroughly original moments from the heavily constructed plot."

Rainer Tittelbach , on the other hand, judges at tittelbach.tv that the film is “different from comparable entertainment films, treats [the infidelity] not as a narcissistic insult for the female main character, but as a starting point for a what-if scenario that is consistent and thoroughly serious The film “does justice to the fact that everything in life has several sides, unlike the genre comedies want to lead you to believe.” He also praises the characters, Claudia Michelsen would not play the career woman according to the clichés and Maren Kroymann her 68s - Do not let the attitude and lifestyle flow into the action in a glaring way, but rather casually.
