Michaela Steiger (* 1964 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) is a German actress .

life and work

Michaela Steiger completed her acting training in New York with Susan Batson ( Actors Studio ) and Herbert Berghof . Her first engagement took her from 1988 to 1993 at the Theater Basel under the artistic direction of Frank Baumbauer , where she a. a. with Jossi Wieler (Princess Eboli in Don Carlos ), Frank Castorf (goddess Athene in Aias ) and with Barbara Frey (solo evening about Sylvia Plath I can do it particularly beautifully ). From 1993 to 1996 she worked at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus where she a. a. as Cressida in Troilus and Cressida (directed by David Mouchtar-Samorai ) and Hedda in Hedda Gabler (directed by Detlef Altenbeck ). Guest engagements took her to the Hamburger Schauspielhaus , Residenztheater Munich , Schauspielhaus Zürich (Lady Milford in Kabale und Liebe , directed by Benjamin Korn).

When Thomas Ostermeier started as artistic director , she went to the Schaubühne Berlin as a permanent member of the ensemble in 1999, where she played the mother Ubu in Alfred Jarry's farce König Ubu (director: Barbara Frey), as well as in Sarah Kane's Gier in a production by Thomas Ostermeier and in the dance piece seriously ; Directed by Luc Dunberrry played. From 2002 she was a guest at the Züricher Schauspielhaus, where she worked with Andreas Kriegenburg , Schorsch Cameroon , Daniela Löffner and Stefan Pucher and at the Münchner Kammerspiele where she has to carry Elektra as Christine Mannon in O'Neill's Mourning (directed by Stefan Pucher) and as a woman Prantl in Faith, Love, Hope (directed by Stephan Kimmig ) could be seen.

In 2006 she played the leading role (in French) Amelia in the play Tendre et cruel at the Comédie de Genève, directed by Denis Maillefer. Under the direction of Martin Kušej , she was a permanent member of the Munich Residence Theater from 2011 to 2016, where she worked a. a. with Martin Kusej ( the bitter tears of Petra von Kant ), Katrine Wiedemann (as Marquise de Merteuil in Dangerous Liaisons ), Daniela Löffner (wife in Peter Handke's the beautiful days of Aranjuez ) Frank Castorf ( journey to the end of the night , invitation to the theater meeting ) and Bernhard Mikeska (as Laura in Opening night :: all about Laura ).

In 2014 she made her debut at the Salzburg Festival in Ödön von Horvath's Don Juan Comes Back from the War , directed by Andreas Kriegenburg . In 2016 she was Brünhild Lotte Jünger at the Nibelungen Festival in Worms, directed by Nuran David Calis .

She has been a permanent guest at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus since the 2016/17 season . At the Münchener Kammerspiele she was seen in Lola Aria's play What they want to hear from 2018 to 2019 .

Steiger works regularly for film and television and for radio.
