The Albanian river Seman ( Albanian  also  Semani , formerly also Semen or Semeni , Turkish Ergent , Latin Apsus ) is the common lower reaches of the rivers Devoll and Osum , which together make up large parts of southeast Albania ( Kolonja and the region around Korça ), a total of Drain 5649 km². With the upper course Devoll the Seman comes to a length of 281 km and forms the second longest river course in the country.

From the meeting of the two rivers about four kilometers west of Kuçova, the Seman crosses the great Myzeqe plain before flowing into the Adriatic after 85 km northwest of Fier . The whole area along the Seman was heavily swampy until it was drained after the Second World War . Certain corrections in the course of the seman were connected with the drainage.

The mean water flow at the mouth is 95.7 m³ / s. The average runoff in winter exceeds the values achieved in summer by 15 times.

In the area around the confluence of the Devoll and Osum rivers and in the catchment area of the Gjanica river , which flows into the Seman at Fier , oil has been produced on a large scale since the 1950s . This led and continues to lead to severe water pollution. The Gjanica is one of the dirtiest rivers in Albania.
